Default Started tracking again. - 02-15-2010, 07:50 PM

Well the weather has been pretty nice, all of the ice and rest of the snow is now gone. Not that we got a lot of snow this year, only about six inches in total. Yeah!!!
Which means that we can go back to tracking again. I thought I would start with Heart as she really likes pleasing me and she loves it. Isadora loves to track but its a more of a drive than a pleasing thing.
I will do each dog every other day, so I don't get confused and pass it on to the dogs. I want them to figure out, they are to think on their own. And not let me do it for them.
Any way, I laid my track only 50 feet as my trainer had told me I needed to start over from the begining. I shuffled my steps and laid the treat down about every 4 feet. I did one big turn so to not confuse her.
I could hear her throwing a fit in her crate in the house as if she knew what I was doing.
I went and got her, had her go potty on the back line.
I then went and got her and she stuck her nose to the ground to find where I had walked to lay the track. I made her plazt about five feet from the starting point. I then put on the long line and had it under her to help steady her. She flew with her nose to the ground, going pretty good but not really all that fast. She skipped most of the treats only eating about every fourth one. On the turn she passed and then went back to go pick up the scent again, and she found it on the first try. Again she mostly ignored the treats on the ground and kept going found the target and plazted right way. I was pretty happy with her! Since this is the first time in months of tracking with her. She really loves this.

Sounds like she just loves tracking Kat!!! Its lovely to see a dog enjoying working, especially something like tracking where they can use their amazing scenting abilities. Any pics?
